The Prodigy: Schang-Viton

While new clothing designers seem to pop up everyday, the magic of true craftsmanship and an eye for detail is reserved for a select few. One of the most exciting names to emerge in the last year is Julia Schang-Viton, a 24-year old prodigy who staged her first runway show before graduating from design school. Her chosen shapes are streamlined yet compelling, and her neutral palette of black, white, and nude speaks to her dedication to the elevation of simplicity. Her belief in the power of quality, durability, and vision for the future has transformed her brand into one of the most captivating stories in Argentine fashion.

Born in Argentina, Schang-Viton not only draws upon local tradition but also her Chinese-French background on her father’s side of the family. This inspiring experience led Julia to reflect upon the things we cannot see, yet that exist in energy, feelings, and the subconscious. She considers this winter’s minimalist collection a tribute to the UFO sighting that so drastically changed her perspective.

Schang-Viton’s flexible garments are constructed using fine fabrics like silk and cotton organzas. Winter classics like wool, mohair, and leather are also featured in abundance in her striking gray winter coat and companion sweater. Her ideas flow directly from her fabric selection, and she often goes straight to pattern making as she begins designing a garment. Moving forward, she hopes to add accessories such as swimsuits, scarves, and socks. A lower-priced basics line is also in the works as an accompaniment to her successful ready-to-wear, and we may even see Julia Schang-Viton denim. Through her creativity, originality, and undying passion, she hopes to become the voice of this generation of Argentine designers. Multicultural, forward-thinking, and endlessly creative, Schang-Viton is unquestionably the queen of the emerging design movement.

Mientras que nuevos diseñadores de ropa aparecen todos los días, la magia de la verdadera artesanía y la atención al detalle está reservado para unos pocos elegidos. Uno de los nombres más fascinantes que surgió en el último año es el de Julia Schang-Viton, un prodigio de 24 años que organizó su primer desfile antes de recibirse en la facultad de diseño. Sus formas elegidas son aerodinámicas pero irresistibles, y su gama de colores neutros de negro, blanco y piel habla de su dedicación a la elevación de la simplicidad. Su colección más reciente, titulada OVNI, se basa en su primer encuentro con un OVNI desde el cerro Uritorco de Córdoba. Esta experiencia inspiradora la llevó a Julia a reflexionar sobre las cosas que no podemos ver, pero que sin embargo existen en la energía, los sentimientos, y el subconsciente. Ella considera su colección minimalista de este invierno un homenaje al OVNI que cambió drásticamente su perspectiva.

Las prendas flexibles de Schang-Vitón se construyen con telas finas como organzas de seda y algodón. Clásicos de invierno como la lana, el mohair, y el cuero también aparecen en abundancia como en su tapado llamativo gris y el suéter compañero. Sus ideas fluyen directamente desde la selección de la tela, y suele ir directo a la moldería cuando empieza a diseñar una pieza. Mirando al futuro, se esperan accesorios como trajes de baño, pañuelos y medias. Una línea de básicos también se encuentra en las obras como acompañamiento de su exitosa pret- a-porter, e incluso podríamos ver a Julia Schang-Viton denim. A través de su creatividad, originalidad y pasión imperecedera, aspira a convertirse en la voz de esta generación de diseñadores argentinos. Multicultural, con visión hacia el futuro, e infinitamente creativa, Schang-Viton es, sin duda, la reina del movimiento del diseño emergente.
