Casual Cool: Deleon

In Buenos Aires, a vibrant, magnetic city, new brands pop up everyday. A creative community of young designers trained at the city’s best universities has made BA one of the most innovative fashion capitals in the world. Fresh on the scene, Camila of Deleon has managed to create one of the few young labels that use high quality fabrics as a base for an easy to wear winter collection.

Inspired by her travels, Camila uses the sights and sounds of city streets to motivate her creativity. From this point, she focuses on the best way to make these creative visions wearable in daily life. This season’s debut collection is filled with tailored basics, from the classic black legging to the button down blouse. Although the individual pieces may be simple essentials, they are still eye-catching, namely for the notable quality and impeccable tailoring. The collection as a whole is made for the young BA girl on the go who wants to look chic with minimal effort. On this level, Deleon scores.

Although it can be considered a destination showroom for your casual essentials, there is just enough of a rock and roll vibe to keep things interesting. I loved the red plaid trousers and their ode to sophisticated grunge, as well as the bold white leather moto jacket. Put together, this mix of easy classics and funky statement pieces makes for a perfect collection that’s sure to make Deleon one of the hottest names in BA’s underground fashion scene.

En Buenos Aires, una ciudad vibrante y magnética, nuevas marcas nacen todos los días. Una comunidad creativa de diseñadores jóvenes entrenados en las mejores universidades de la ciudad se convirtió a Buenos Aires en una de las capitales de la moda más innovadoras del mundo. Fresca en la escena, Camila de Deleon ha logrado crear una de las pocas marcas nuevas que utilizan telas de alta calidad como la base para una colección de invierno fácil de usar.

Inspirada por sus viajes, Camila utiliza las vistas y los sonidos de las calles de las ciudades para motivar su creatividad. Usando esas inspiraciones, se centra en la mejor manera de hacer que sus visiones creativas sean usables en la vida diaria. Su colección estreno de esta temporada está llena de conceptos básicos bien hechos, desde la clásica calza negra hasta la camisa con botones. Aunque las piezas individuales son simples y esenciales, siguen siendo llamativas por la calidad notable y sastrería impecable. La colección entera está formada para la chica joven en movimiento que quiere lucir chic con un mínimo de esfuerzo. En este sentido, Deleon gana.

Aunque pueda ser considerado como un showroom destino para sus prendas casuales, la colección tiene lo suficiente de una onda rock and roll para mantener las cosas interesantes. Me encantaron los pantalones rojos escoseses y su oda al grunge sofisticado, así como la audaz campera de cuero blanco, estilo moto. Combinados, esta mezcla de clásicos con piezas llamativas crean una colección perfecta que hacen que Deleon sea uno de los nombres más importantes en la escena underground de la moda de BA.

The Fresh New Face: Belén Amigo

The prominence of emerging design is one of the great pillars of the fashion industry in Buenos Aires. This community of young designers brings a vibrancy unseen in most of the world’s fashion capitals. Events such as last week’s La Ciudad de Moda give us the opportunity to take a closer look at some of these up-and-coming designers that are sure to shape our industry in years to come. At Desfile Buenos Aires, a fashion show made up of some of the brightest young stars in BA, the versatile designs by Belén Amigo dominated the runway.

Belén’s impeccable collection demonstrated her love of layering in an untraditional manner, with such combinations as cropped knit sweaters over flowing asymmetrical dresses. Her tailored trousers sit relaxed on the hips and long in the leg, narrowly skimming the runway. Her collection offers a variety of garments, most of which are layerable. Every fall favorite from the sweatshirt to the poncho and even a striking red coat make an appearance. Memorable features such as stripes and slits are also incorporated into Belén’s noteworthy collection.

A truly hands-on designer, Belén takes pride in every element of her work. The stitching and finishes on each garment are flawless, a perfect display of her dedication to solid construction. As a student at the University of Palermo and later an apprentice to Graciela Zito, Belén learned the trade from the best of the best. Her first winter collection has a sporty yet elegant feel, as basic pieces like a sweater or a light jacket fit seamlessly alongside strategically draped dresses.

Although each designer at La Ciudad de Moda offered a unique and interesting perspective, Belén’s well-developed collection stood out the most. She’s bright, she’s young, and she’s ready for the next step. Can’t wait to see what’s coming.

La importancia del diseño emergente es uno de los grandes pilares de la industria de la moda en Buenos Aires. Esta comunidad de diseñadores jóvenes aporta a un dinamismo no visto en la mayoría de las capitales de la moda en el mundo. Eventos como La Ciudad de Moda nos dan la oportunidad de echar un vistazo más cercano a algunos de estos diseñadores emergentes que seguramente van a dar forma a nuestra industria en los próximos años. En Desfile Buenos Aires, un desfile de moda de algunas de las estrellas más brillantes de Buenos Aires, los diseños versátiles de Belén Amigo dominaron la pasarela.

La colección impecable de Belén demostró su amor por la superposición de una manera poco tradicional, con combinaciones como suéters cortos sobre vestidos fluídos asimétricos. Sus pantalones de sastre quedan relajados en las caderas y largos de la pierna, justo rozando la pasarela. Su colección ofrece una gran variedad de prendas, la mayoría de las cuales son intercambiables. Cada favorito de otoño desde el buzo hasta el poncho y un abrigo rojo llamativo estuvieron presentes. Las características memorables, como rayas y hendiduras también se incorporan a la colección notable.

Una diseñadora verdaderamente práctica, Belén se enorgullece de cada elemento de su obra. Las costuras y terminaciones de cada prenda son impecables, una muestra perfecta de su dedicación a la buena construcción. Como estudiante en la Universidad de Palermo y después como aprendiz de Graciela Zito, Belén aprendió el arte del diseño con los mejores de los mejores. Su primera colección de invierno tiene una energía deportiva pero elegante, con piezas básicas como un suéter o una chaqueta ligera al lado de unos vestidos drapeados.

Aunque cada diseñador en La Ciudad de Moda ofrece una perspectiva única e interesante, la colección bien desarollada de Belén se destacó más. Ella es brillante, joven, y está lista para el siguiente paso. No puedo esperar a ver lo que viene.

BAFWeek Up Close: BAShopGirl Goes to Luz Ballestero

At this season’s BAF, texture ruled the day. Unlikely combinations such as delicate knits with shiny leather and rhinestone covered creations with casual jersey dominated the runways. At Luz Ballestero, we witnessed the perfect balance of these rare yet irresistible blends. Ballestero’s well-styled, well-timed runway show featured standard winter pieces like light windbreakers and stretch leggings alongside ruched maxi dresses and heavily draped cropped jackets. Some pieces embraced the current obsession with oversized garments, while others hugged the body in all the right places. The harmony between these two extremes made each look truly desirable.

Although nudes and white predominated, black made a striking appearance of its own. The wide leg low-waist trousers paired with a cropped sweatshirt (another star of fall/winter) looked just right for a cloudy late afternoon in BA. And then there’s the shorts. Oh those shorts. Styled with an asymmetrical long-sleeved blouse over sheer stockings, they owned the runway.

The black garments may have stolen the show, but Ballestero’s signature nude pieces were ready to go straight from the runway to the streets of Buenos Aires. Known for the flexibility of her garments, Ballestero’s jackets, sweaters, and dresses are designed to be interchangeable. She makes the art of dressing look easy and gives the shopper multiple options for every piece. Although it’s always fun to buy that statement piece that sets our closets apart from the rest, it’s often most practical to purchase the item we know we can combine with a basic legging and still look fabulous. For those of us who want to look great and keep it functional, Luz Ballestero showed us her collection is the one for us.

En esta edición del BAF, las texturas ganaron el día. Combinaciones inesperadas como tejidos delicados con cuero brillante y creaciones de lentejuelas con prendas casuales de jersey dominaron las pasarelas. En el desfile de Luz Ballestero, fuimos testigos de un equilibrio perfecto entre estas mezclas raras pero irresistibles. Bien de estilo Ballestero, el desfile con estilismo perfecto contó con piezas estándares de invierno como impermeables ligeras y calzas stretch junto a maxi vestidos y chaquetas cortas y drapeadas. Algunas piezas conformaron con la obsesión actual con prendas sueltas, mientras que otras abrazaron al cuerpo en todos los lugares correctos. La armonía entre estos dos extremos se hicieron que cada look sea verdaderamente deseable.

Aunque los colores piel y blanco predominaron, el negro también hizo una aparición notable. Los pantalones de pierna ancha y cintura baja combinados con un buzo corto (otra estrella de otoño / invierno) se veían perfectos para una tarde nublada en Buenos Aires. Y después están los short. Oh esos short. Combinados con una blusa asímetrica de manga larga sobre calzas finas, eran los dueños de la pasarela.

Las prendas negras podrían haberse robado el show, pero las piezas de color piel, una firma de la marca, estaban listas para ir directamente de la pasarela a las calles de Buenos Aires. Conocida por la flexibilidad de sus prendas, los vestidos, chaquetas, y suéteres de Ballestero están diseñados para ser intercambiables. Ella hace que el arte de vestir sea fácil y le da a la compradora múltiples opciones para cada pieza. Aunque siempre es divertido comprar esa prenda llamativa que posiciona nuestro armario aparte del resto, a veces es más práctico comprar una pieza que sabemos que podemos combinar con una calza básica y lucir fabulosa. Para aquellas nosotras que quieren verse bien y mantenerlo funcional, Luz Ballestero nos mostró que su colección es la única para nosotras.

BAFWeek Days 3 & 4: My Top 3 Shows of the Closing Days

If the brilliant work by Visentini, Paula Ledesma, and Kostüme from days one and two wasn’t enough, days three and four of BAFWeek provided a look at some of the most well-known local brands as well as student and emerging designers. After seeing the work by Semillero UBA and the designers of Mapa de Diseño, I’d say we’re in for an exciting season.

Cora Groppo
In Buenos Aires, the name Cora Groppo is synonymous with urban cool. Think rocker-chic with sophistication. The girl who looks effortlessly stylish, comfortably hip, and always modern. Groppo’s new fall/winter collection could not have been more on point with this assessment. From the hooded coats to the textured leggings, I would wear every piece that came down the runway.

Here at BAShopGirl, we’re all about supporting emerging designers. They are the lifeblood of the fashion industry, they keep things interesting, and they’re always unexpected. This season’s choices of Hue, Kalu Gryb, Las Deboras, and Lucia Belaustegui gave us an interesting peek at the world of Argentine fashion outside the capital. There was a distinctly gaucho feel to Kalu Gryb, and Lucia Belaustegui’s warrior queen aesthetic was softened by rich knitwear. And I loved it. As much as we all appreciate our big name brands, the burgeoning designers waiting in the wings are often the most unforgettable.

Garza Lobos
After several seasons of Garza Lobos, it’s clear that this brand has found its stride. The current collection’s wonderful mix of textures from sheer skirts to metallic dresses, along with the resurgence of paisley and polka dots have me excited to say I’ve just witnessed Garza Lobos’ best collection yet. It’s clever without being over the top, and wearable without being generic. True to form, the fits were perfect and the attention to detail unwavering. BAFWeek could not have ended on a better note.

The week is over, and we’ve had a sneak peek at what’s coming soon to our fave local stores. Now’s the time for some summer closet makeovers. Fall has arrived.

Si el trabajo brillante de Visentini, Paula Ledesma, y Kostüme de los días uno y dos no fuera suficiente, los días tres y cuatro de BAFWeek nos dio un vistazo a algunas de las marcas locales más conocidas, tal como los estudiantes y diseñadores emergentes. Después de ver el desfile de Semillero UBA y los diseñadores de Mapa de Diseño, yo diría que estamos en una época emocionante.

Cora Groppo
En Buenos Aires, el nombre de Cora Groppo es sinónimo de urbano fresco. Pensá rockero-chic con sofisticación. La chica que se ve elegante sin esfuerzo, cómoda canchera, y siempre moderna. La nueva colección de Groppo no podría haber sido más en punto con esta evaluación. Desde los abrigos con capuchas hasta los leggings con textura, me pondría cada pieza que venía por la pasarela.

Aca en BAShopGirl, apoyamos mucho a los diseñadores emergentes. Ellos son el alma de la industria de la moda, mantienen las cosas interesantes, y son siempre inesperados. Opciones de esta temporada de Hue, Kalu Gryb, Las Deboras, y Lucia Belaustegui nos dio una perspectiva interesante del mundo de la moda argentina fuera de la capital. Había una sensación claramente gaucho en Kalu Gryb y la estética reina guerrera de Lucía Belaustegui se suavizó con unos sueters tejidos bien suntuosos. Y me encantó. Por más que todos apreciamos nuestras grandes marcas, los diseñadores florecientes esperando en el fondo suelen ser los más inolvidables.

Garza Lobos
Después de varias temporadas de Garza Lobos, está claro que esta marca ha encontrado su ritmo. La mezcla maravillosa de las texturas en la nueva colección, desde las polleras transparentes hasta los vestidos metálicos, junto con el resurgimiento del estampado paisley y los lunares me han emocionado a decir que fui testigo de la mejor colección de Garza Lobos. Es inteligente sin zarparse, y utilizable sin ser genérico. Como siempre, las prendas quedan perfectas y la atención al detalle es inquebrantable. BAFWeek no podría haber terminado mejor.

La semana ha terminado, y hemos tenido un adelanto de lo que viene pronto a nuestros locales favoritos. Ahora es el momento para algunos cambios en el armario. Ha llegado otoño.

BAFWeek Days 1 & 2: My Top 3 Shows of Argentina's Biggest Fashion Event of the Year

The first two days of BAFWeek are often the most exciting of this biannual fashion event. The new season is upon us, we’re ready to refresh our closets, and we’re getting our first peek at the new collections from some of our favorite designers. There was so much to see at the start of Argentina’s biggest fashion event, but these three designers stood out for their contemporary, wearable, and innovative collections that are sure to bring a little extra pop to our fall wardrobes.


Visentini
While brilliant young designer Agustina Visentini often leans towards the avant-garde, her new fall/winter collection stood out for its wearability. Rich colors like orange, bordeaux red, and deep chocolate brown, along with a distinctly 70’s vibe made this sexy collection one of the most appealing of the first day. The shift dresses, collared shirts, plaid prints, and knee socks reflect the intelligence of the designer as well as the design world’s current nod to the appeal of the sultry secretary. In keeping with her usual creativity, Visentini embraced a variety of textures and cleverly mixed stripes with solids, smooth with rough, and sharp with soft to create an irresistible collection for BA’s hot young professionals.     


Paula Ledesma
If there’s anyone who can turn a sweater into a compelling work of art, it’s Paula Ledesma. Her body hugging garments fit perfectly, and with this season’s smooth fall colors in nude, yellow, and striking white/black combos, Ledesma hit the mark. The leggings are going straight into my closet, along with the knee-length knit skirts that are so very now. Plus, I couldn’t get enough of those woven masks and the braided sweaters. Overall, a solid offering from a woman who knows how to construct a collection that maintains artistic integrity while appealing to the average consumer. The perfect combo.


Kostüme
We’ve all heard me say it, but I’ll just mention it one more time for emphasis: I love Kostüme. Oversized garments that still manage to flatter the female form, sexy androgyny, a consistently strong brand identity, and a few pairs of fabulous shoes give Kostüme status as a true BA fashion stalwart. This season gave us a few pops of color in addition to the brand’s traditional black/white/gray palette. Striking red, forest green, and royal blue all made timely appearances, and there was even a touch of silver metallic for those of us in need of a little shine. We saw dresses over leggings, draped ponchos, and winter-ready jackets. As always, Kostüme embraced function without sacrificing form.


After seeing these three shows, I couldn’t have been more excited for the next two days of BAFWeek. Coming tomorrow: my top choices for days three and four of my favorite event of the year.

Los primeros dos días de BAFWeek suelen ser los más emocionantes de este evento bianual de la moda. La nueva temporada está llegando, estamos listas para actualizar nuestros armarios, y estamos echando nuestro primer vistazo a las nuevas colecciones de algunos de nuestros diseñadores favoritos. Había mucho para ver en el inicio del evento más grande de la moda argentina, pero estos tres diseñadores se destacaron por sus colecciones contemporáneas, ponibles e innovadores que van a dar un poco de chispa a nuestros equipos del otoño.


Visentini
Aunque la brillante joven diseñadora Agustina Visentini suele inclinarse hacia el lado más avant-garde, su nueva colección otoño / invierno se destacó por su ponibilidad. Colores vivos como el naranja, rojo bordó y marrón chocolate, además de una energía bien de los 70 hizo que ésta colección sexy sea una de las más atractivas de la primera jornada. Los vestidos shift, camisas con cuello, estampados a cuadros, y calcetines reflejan la inteligencia de la diseñadora, y la tendencia del mundo de la moda a la onda de la secretaria sensual. De acuerdo con su creatividad habitual, Visentini adoptó una variedad de texturas-rayas hábilmente mezcladas con sólidos, lo liso con lo áspero, y lo fuerte con lo suave para crear una colección irresistible para las jóvenes chicas profesionales de BA.     


Paula Ledesma
Si hay alguien que puede convertir un suéter en una obra de arte, es Paula Ledesma. Sus prendas bien al cuerpo quedan perfectas, y con colores suaves de la temporada de otoño como suela, amarillo, y combos blanco / negro, Ledesma era un gran éxito. Las calzas van directamente a mi armario, junto con las polleras hasta la rodilla que son tan ahora. Además, no me cansaba de esas máscaras tejidas y los suéteres trenzados. En general, una oferta sólida de una mujer que sabe cómo construir una colección que mantiene la integridad artística mientras que sea atractiva para el consumidor. El combo perfecto.


Kostüme
Todos me han escuchado decirlo, pero sólo lo voy a mencionar una vez más para dar énfasis: Me encanta Kostüme. Prendas sueltas que se las arreglan para halagar la forma femenina, la androginia sexy, una identidad de marca fuerte y consistente, y unos cuantos pares de zapatos fabulosos dan estatus a Kostüme como una marca firme en la moda de BA. Esta temporada nos dio algunos estallidos de color además de la paleta tradicional negro / blanco / gris de la marca. Rojo llamativo, verde bosque, y azul real aparecieron en momentos perfectos, e incluso hubo un toque de plata metálica para nosotras que necesitamos un poco de brillo. Vimos vestidos sobre calzas, ponchos y chaquetas drapeadas listas para invierno. Como siempre, Kostüme dio un abrazo a función sin sacrificar la forma.


Después de ver estos tres desfiles, yo no podría haber estado más emocionada para los próximos dos días de BAFWeek. Llegando mañana: mis mejores opciones para los días tres y cuatro de mi evento favorito del año.
