If the brilliant work by Visentini, Paula Ledesma, and Kostüme from days one and two wasn’t enough, days three and four of BAFWeek provided a look at some of the most well-known local brands as well as student and emerging designers. After seeing the work by Semillero UBA and the designers of Mapa de Diseño, I’d say we’re in for an exciting season.
Cora Groppo
In Buenos Aires, the name Cora Groppo is synonymous with urban cool. Think rocker-chic with sophistication. The girl who looks effortlessly stylish, comfortably hip, and always modern. Groppo’s new fall/winter collection could not have been more on point with this assessment. From the hooded coats to the textured leggings, I would wear every piece that came down the runway.

Here at BAShopGirl, we’re all about supporting emerging designers. They are the lifeblood of the fashion industry, they keep things interesting, and they’re always unexpected. This season’s choices of Hue, Kalu Gryb, Las Deboras, and Lucia Belaustegui gave us an interesting peek at the world of Argentine fashion outside the capital. There was a distinctly gaucho feel to Kalu Gryb, and Lucia Belaustegui’s warrior queen aesthetic was softened by rich knitwear. And I loved it. As much as we all appreciate our big name brands, the burgeoning designers waiting in the wings are often the most unforgettable.
Garza Lobos
After several seasons of Garza Lobos, it’s clear that this brand has found its stride. The current collection’s wonderful mix of textures from sheer skirts to metallic dresses, along with the resurgence of paisley and polka dots have me excited to say I’ve just witnessed Garza Lobos’ best collection yet. It’s clever without being over the top, and wearable without being generic. True to form, the fits were perfect and the attention to detail unwavering. BAFWeek could not have ended on a better note.
The week is over, and we’ve had a sneak peek at what’s coming soon to our fave local stores. Now’s the time for some summer closet makeovers. Fall has arrived.

Si el trabajo brillante de Visentini, Paula Ledesma, y Kostüme de los días uno y dos no fuera suficiente, los días tres y cuatro de BAFWeek nos dio un vistazo a algunas de las marcas locales más conocidas, tal como los estudiantes y diseñadores emergentes. Después de ver el desfile de Semillero UBA y los diseñadores de Mapa de Diseño, yo diría que estamos en una época emocionante.

En Buenos Aires, el nombre de Cora Groppo es sinónimo de urbano fresco. Pensá rockero-chic con sofisticación. La chica que se ve elegante sin esfuerzo, cómoda canchera, y siempre moderna. La nueva colección de Groppo no podría haber sido más en punto con esta evaluación. Desde los abrigos con capuchas hasta los leggings con textura, me pondría cada pieza que venía por la pasarela.

Aca en BAShopGirl, apoyamos mucho a los diseñadores emergentes. Ellos son el alma de la industria de la moda, mantienen las cosas interesantes, y son siempre inesperados. Opciones de esta temporada de Hue, Kalu Gryb, Las Deboras, y Lucia Belaustegui nos dio una perspectiva interesante del mundo de la moda argentina fuera de la capital. Había una sensación claramente gaucho en Kalu Gryb y la estética reina guerrera de Lucía Belaustegui se suavizó con unos sueters tejidos bien suntuosos. Y me encantó. Por más que todos apreciamos nuestras grandes marcas, los diseñadores florecientes esperando en el fondo suelen ser los más inolvidables.
Garza Lobos
Después de varias temporadas de Garza Lobos, está claro que esta marca ha encontrado su ritmo. La mezcla maravillosa de las texturas en la nueva colección, desde las polleras transparentes hasta los vestidos metálicos, junto con el resurgimiento del estampado paisley y los lunares me han emocionado a decir que fui testigo de la mejor colección de Garza Lobos. Es inteligente sin zarparse, y utilizable sin ser genérico. Como siempre, las prendas quedan perfectas y la atención al detalle es inquebrantable. BAFWeek no podría haber terminado mejor.
La semana ha terminado, y hemos tenido un adelanto de lo que viene pronto a nuestros locales favoritos. Ahora es el momento para algunos cambios en el armario. Ha llegado otoño.

The first two days of BAFWeek are often the most exciting of this biannual fashion event. The new season is upon us, we’re ready to refresh our closets, and we’re getting our first peek at the new collections from some of our favorite designers. There was so much to see at the start of Argentina’s biggest fashion event, but these three designers stood out for their contemporary, wearable, and innovative collections that are sure to bring a little extra pop to our fall wardrobes.
Visentini
While brilliant young designer Agustina Visentini often leans towards the avant-garde, her new fall/winter collection stood out for its wearability. Rich colors like orange, bordeaux red, and deep chocolate brown, along with a distinctly 70’s vibe made this sexy collection one of the most appealing of the first day. The shift dresses, collared shirts, plaid prints, and knee socks reflect the intelligence of the designer as well as the design world’s current nod to the appeal of the sultry secretary. In keeping with her usual creativity, Visentini embraced a variety of textures and cleverly mixed stripes with solids, smooth with rough, and sharp with soft to create an irresistible collection for BA’s hot young professionals.
Paula Ledesma
If there’s anyone who can turn a sweater into a compelling work of art, it’s Paula Ledesma. Her body hugging garments fit perfectly, and with this season’s smooth fall colors in nude, yellow, and striking white/black combos, Ledesma hit the mark. The leggings are going straight into my closet, along with the knee-length knit skirts that are so very now. Plus, I couldn’t get enough of those woven masks and the braided sweaters. Overall, a solid offering from a woman who knows how to construct a collection that maintains artistic integrity while appealing to the average consumer. The perfect combo.
Kostüme
We’ve all heard me say it, but I’ll just mention it one more time for emphasis: I love Kostüme. Oversized garments that still manage to flatter the female form, sexy androgyny, a consistently strong brand identity, and a few pairs of fabulous shoes give Kostüme status as a true BA fashion stalwart. This season gave us a few pops of color in addition to the brand’s traditional black/white/gray palette. Striking red, forest green, and royal blue all made timely appearances, and there was even a touch of silver metallic for those of us in need of a little shine. We saw dresses over leggings, draped ponchos, and winter-ready jackets. As always, Kostüme embraced function without sacrificing form.
After seeing these three shows, I couldn’t have been more excited for the next two days of BAFWeek. Coming tomorrow: my top choices for days three and four of my favorite event of the year.

Los primeros dos días de BAFWeek suelen ser los más emocionantes de este evento bianual de la moda. La nueva temporada está llegando, estamos listas para actualizar nuestros armarios, y estamos echando nuestro primer vistazo a las nuevas colecciones de algunos de nuestros diseñadores favoritos. Había mucho para ver en el inicio del evento más grande de la moda argentina, pero estos tres diseñadores se destacaron por sus colecciones contemporáneas, ponibles e innovadores que van a dar un poco de chispa a nuestros equipos del otoño.
Visentini
Aunque la brillante joven diseñadora Agustina Visentini suele inclinarse hacia el lado más avant-garde, su nueva colección otoño / invierno se destacó por su ponibilidad. Colores vivos como el naranja, rojo bordó y marrón chocolate, además de una energía bien de los 70 hizo que ésta colección sexy sea una de las más atractivas de la primera jornada. Los vestidos shift, camisas con cuello, estampados a cuadros, y calcetines reflejan la inteligencia de la diseñadora, y la tendencia del mundo de la moda a la onda de la secretaria sensual. De acuerdo con su creatividad habitual, Visentini adoptó una variedad de texturas-rayas hábilmente mezcladas con sólidos, lo liso con lo áspero, y lo fuerte con lo suave para crear una colección irresistible para las jóvenes chicas profesionales de BA.
Paula Ledesma
Si hay alguien que puede convertir un suéter en una obra de arte, es Paula Ledesma. Sus prendas bien al cuerpo quedan perfectas, y con colores suaves de la temporada de otoño como suela, amarillo, y combos blanco / negro, Ledesma era un gran éxito. Las calzas van directamente a mi armario, junto con las polleras hasta la rodilla que son tan ahora. Además, no me cansaba de esas máscaras tejidas y los suéteres trenzados. En general, una oferta sólida de una mujer que sabe cómo construir una colección que mantiene la integridad artística mientras que sea atractiva para el consumidor. El combo perfecto.
Kostüme
Todos me han escuchado decirlo, pero sólo lo voy a mencionar una vez más para dar énfasis: Me encanta Kostüme. Prendas sueltas que se las arreglan para halagar la forma femenina, la androginia sexy, una identidad de marca fuerte y consistente, y unos cuantos pares de zapatos fabulosos dan estatus a Kostüme como una marca firme en la moda de BA. Esta temporada nos dio algunos estallidos de color además de la paleta tradicional negro / blanco / gris de la marca. Rojo llamativo, verde bosque, y azul real aparecieron en momentos perfectos, e incluso hubo un toque de plata metálica para nosotras que necesitamos un poco de brillo. Vimos vestidos sobre calzas, ponchos y chaquetas drapeadas listas para invierno. Como siempre, Kostüme dio un abrazo a función sin sacrificar la forma.
Después de ver estos tres desfiles, yo no podría haber estado más emocionada para los próximos dos días de BAFWeek. Llegando mañana: mis mejores opciones para los días tres y cuatro de mi evento favorito del año.

This ultra-secret collaboration between teen fave Muaa and the master of gothic elegance, Pablo Ramirez, should prove interesting. Can’t wait to see how Mr. Ramirez translates his sophisticated aesthetic to a younger market.
18:00 Mariana Dappiano
Although most of her collections often strike a more mature note, I hope to see a youthful ease in Dappiano’s comfy casuals. I expect lots of color and flow to the garments, which always include just the right amount of poise.

Now here’s a great combination if I’ve ever seen one. Luz Ballestero’s elegant originals have become synonymous with sophistication in this town, and Daniela Sartori’s understated neutrals are an ode to the virtues of minimalism. This could easily be one of the most electric shows of the week.

Another blog favorite, Paula Ledesma’s knitwear has been lauded internationally as well as locally. Although she works strictly within this facet of the industry, she always manages to produce original garments that stand out in any closet.

I have been a great admirer (and customer) of Kostume for many years. Design team Camila Milessi and Emiliano Blanco consistently produce seemingly androgynous garments that captivate the eye while maintaining wearability. I have no doubt they will use this season to build on their already successful brand aesthetic.

I absolutely love their unique take on the party dress, which inevitably involves strategic draping and soft-as-silk fabric. The ready-to-wear pieces are easy breezy, yet always add a touch of high fashion to casual daywear.

Esta colaboración ultra-secreta entre la marca preferida de los adolescentes, Muaa, y el maestro de la elegancia gótica, Pablo Ramírez, debe resultar interesante. No puedo esperar a ver cómo el Sr. Ramírez traduce su estética sofisticada a un mercado más joven.

Aunque en la mayoría de sus colecciones se encuentra un punto de vista más madura, espero ver una facilidad juvenil en las prendas cómodas y casuales de Dappiano. Vamos a ver mucho color y movimiento en las piezas, que siempre incluyen la cantidad justa de aplomo.

Soy una gran admiradora (y clienta) de Kostüme hace muchos años. Como el último desfile de la semana, Garza Lobos tiene la oportunidad de poner fin a BAFWeek con una explosión. Me encanta su perspectiva única sobre el vestido de fiesta, lo que inevitablemente implica drapeado estratégico y telas suaves como la seda. Las piezas de prêt-à-porter son fáciles de poner, pero siempre agregan un toque de alta costura para usar un día casual.

The shoes equal the bags in quality and style, with a ladylike modernity that makes them wearable at any age. The summer collection featured pointy-toe pumps and sophisticated flats. This winter, look out for more sparkle, shine, and the bright colors that make Jackie Smith BA’s brand for the girly girl.
Jazmin Chebar
Known around town as one of the truly talented brand names, Jazmin Chebar’s consistently cool collections have all the hallmarks of a girly girl’s fantasy. Think intricate detailing in beading and rhinestones, tons of color, and mixable prints beloved by many Palermitanas. In recent seasons, the shoes and bags have gradually begun to complement Jazmin’s cosmopolitan clothing. This season, watch out. The animal print sneaks might just have you swooning for a little piece of Chebar.

Our favorite outfit just wouldn’t be complete without that extra touch of accessories. A statement necklace, ring, or stacked bracelets can transform any look from blah to bling. That’s why I always pay a visit to Los Vados del Isen when I’m looking to spice things up. The selection alone will impress you, and with plenty of sparkle and style, LVDI has just the right amount of femininity to satisfy your inner girly girl.
Besha
We all know I’m a lover of independent design when it comes to bags, but if I’m going to shop at a brand, Besha is my first stop. It’s hard to resist the abundance of animal print and pink in their reliable collections that provide appealing options every season. In addition to their playful bag line, Besha offers handy accessories such as keychains, iPhone and iPad cases, and card holders. Always girly, always memorable.
De Maria
An original Recoleta staple, the ladies of DeMaria now have a petite home in Palermo SoHo where you can shop this refined line of shoes and bags. Although originally made famous by their flats, DeMaria is now known for a variety of styles, from wedge sandals in summer to booties in winter. Each shoe is current and versatile, and their second line for your little mini-me couldn’t be more adorable.
Although my personal style involves a little more black and way less color, even I can’t resist the allure of these ultra feminine stores. Whether the treat is for you or for your fave girly girlfriend, a little pink now and then never hurt anyone.

Es por eso que siempre paso a dar una vuelta por Los Vados del Isen cuando estoy con ganas de variar el placard. La amplia selección ya te va a agradar, y con mucha chispa y estilo, LVDI tiene la cantidad justa de feminidad para satisfacer a tu chica femenina interior.

Todos sabemos que soy una amante del diseño independiente cuando se trata de carteras, pero si me voy a comprar en una marca, Besha es mi primera parada. Es difícil de resistir la abundancia de animal print y rosa en sus colecciones fiables que ofrecen opciones atractivas cada temporada. Además de su línea de carteras juguetón, Besha ofrece accesorios prácticos como llaveros, fundas para iPhone y iPad, y portatarjetas. Siempre femenina, siempre memorable.
De Maria
Un original de Recoleta, las damas de DeMaria ahora tienen una pequeña boutique en Palermo Soho donde se puede comprar esta línea refinada de zapatos y carteras. Aunque originalmente se hizo famoso por sus chatitas, DeMaria hoy se conoce por una variedad de estilos, desde sandalias con taco chino en verano hasta botines en invierno. Cada zapato está de moda y es versátil, y su segunda línea para tu pequeña mini-me no puede ser más adorable.
Aunque mi estilo personal implica un poco más negro y mucho menos color, yo no puedo resistir el encanto de estas marcas ultra femeninas. Si el regalo es para vos o para tu amiga femenina favorita, un poco de rosa de vez en cuando no lastima a nadie.

When we think of Argentine fashion, design, and style, one classic piece immediately comes to mind-the leather jacket. Our beautiful, expansive country is filled with quality leather products and almost every major brand incorporates this versatile piece into each collection. To make their design dream come to life, the most famous local brands turn to one man-Javier Cederbojm.
The son of a leather manufacturer, Javier grew up surrounded by Argentina’s famed material. Nevertheless, it’s clear that his talent goes beyond his upbringing. Young, creative, dedicated, and motivated, Javier conveys a confidence lacking in many of his competitors. As I set foot into his urban Villa Crespo studio, it’s abundantly clear that this man knows what he’s doing. His inventory is huge and high quality, incorporating imported leathers from Bolivia and Uruguay into his massive, versatile collection created for the likes of Kosiuko, Maria Cher, and Uma.
In addition to his booming business as the leather liaison for these major brands, he has also developed a line of his own, Ced: Custom Ensure Design. A lover of details, you’ll find fringed sleeves, well-placed zippers, and my personal favorite, the studded skull and crossbones etched carefully into the back of his rocker-chic black jacket. Javier’s mastery of the leather craft also extends to belts and purses, and coming soon, a clothing line for both men and women.
His overall aesthetic is modern, cosmopolitan, yet laid-back. HIs jackets are wearable both day and night, and stand out for their high quality and vigorous attention to detail. No wonder all the local brands just can’t live without him. You shouldn’t either.

Hijo de un fabricante de cuero, Javier creció rodeado de la material más famosa de la Argentina. Sin embargo, está claro que su talento va más allá de su educación. Joven, creativo, dedicado y motivado, Javier transmite una confianza que falta en muchos de sus competidores. Al entrar en su estudio urbano de Villa Crespo, es claro que este hombre sabe bien lo que está haciendo. Su inventario es enorme y de alta calidad, incorporando cueros importados de Bolivia y Uruguay en su colección masiva y versátil creada para marcas como Kosiuko, María Cher, y Uma.
Además de su negocio exitoso como el embajador del cuero para las grandes marcas, también ha desarrollado una línea propia, Ced: Custom Ensure Design. Un amante de los detalles, encontrarás mangas con flecos, cierres bien colocados, y mi favorito personal, la calavera de tachas grabada en la espalda de su campera negra rockera-chic. El dominio de Javier de la artesanía en cuero también se extiende a los cinturones y carteras, y próximamente, una línea de ropa para hombres y mujeres.
Su estética general es moderna y cosmopolita, pero a la vez relajada y bien canchera. Las camperas son portátiles, tanto de día como de noche, y se destacan por su alta calidad y la vigorosa atención al detalle. No me sorprende que todas las marcas locales no pueden vivir sin él. Vos tampoco.

Her canvas carryalls are the standout pieces of this season’s collection, making it easy to tote your maxi bag to the beach or the office. Don’t fret if you lean towards leather. Even the canvas bags have leather detailing, from fringe to piping, and incorporate vibrant colors like fuchsia, sky blue, and bright yellow. When it comes to prints, Tiza Caliza rocks it, from cool camo to wild animal print. They may be strikingly colorful, but they are also adaptable. They work perfectly with black but can blend right in with your bright summer selections. For those brave enough to try mixing prints, you might just have your perfect combination with Tiza Caliza’s camo carryall.

Hay pocas cosas en la moda que me gustan más que las carteras. Retiro lo dicho. No hay nada en la moda que me gustan más que las carteras. Los zapatos son indispensables, la ropa nos da nuestra identidad, pero las carteras se pueden transformar el conjunto. Se pueden agregar color a un conjunto de negro o darnos ese toque adicional de brillo en nuestros días más casuales. En mi nuevo showroom favorito, Tiza Caliza, la colección de verano fabulosamente colorido lo lleva a tu placard a otro nivel.
La joven Antonela, recientemente recibida del famoso programa de diseño de indumentaria de la UBA, es el corazón detrás de esta marca seductora. Ella es cálida, divertida y alegre, y su energía contagiosa se transmite en su línea de carteras muy original. Sus maxibolsos de lona son las piezas destacadas de la colección de esta temporada, perfectas para ir a la playa o a la oficina. No te preocupes si te tienta más el cuero. Cada cartera tiene detalles en cuero, desde flecos hasta bolsillos, e incorpora colores vibrantes como el fucsia, azul cielo y amarillo brillante. Cuando se trata de estampados, Antonela los sabe muy bien, desde camuflaje canchero hasta animal print. Estos pueden ser bien llamativos, pero también son adaptables.
